It is but coincidental that the 20th National Conference of ISCUF should take place in Kolkata, West Bengal.

   Let us recall with great happiness that it was this state that gave India two great stalwarts, Rabindranath Tagore & Com. Jyoti Basu. Both of them lent their support to the progress of India & the freedom struggle.

   Rabindranath Tagore the first Nobel Laureate, the author of our National Anthem, the stalwart who diligently worked towards the freedom of India, the person who raised his voice against violation of human right, the great fighter for emancipation of women, the towering personality who fought for eradication of castes, a writer & poet, a great educationist & last but not the least a great patriot.

   At the last National Conference of ISCUF, held at Chennai in 2009, it was decided to observe Tagore’s birth anniversary from May 2010 – May 2012 throughout India.

   It was Tagore who besides being a writer & poet who stood for justice, raised his voice against any injustice or oppression. All of us who belong to ISCUF are happy & proud that all states of India tried their best to celebrate Tagore’s birth anniversary in a befitting manner.

   As far Com. Jyoti Basu, he needs no introduction to all of us involved in the friendship movement. He was a part of FSU, later ISCUS & ISCUF. Com. Jyoti Basu was there to support the friendship movement throughout his life. He would have been 98 years old this year. From 1941 upto 2010 Com. Jyoti was a pillar of strength to the friendship movement.

   As we recall the great work of Rabindranath Tagore & the great personalities of FSU like Hiren Mukherjee, Snehangshu Kanta Acharya, Bhupendranath Dutta, Bhupesh Gupta, Jyoti Basu and others to our motherland, India, we bow our heads in reverence to these great stalwarts & thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their efforts towards freedom, progress, friendship & world peace.

   All of us gathered here at the 20th National Conference of ISCUF, at Kolkata are happy and proud of our participation as delegates, participants, students, artists etc.

   Let us all take a pledge here at this Conference that each of us will rededicate our life to help in the cause of friendship, cultural cooperation with other countries.

   Today ISCUF rededicates itself to strengthing of friendship & exchange of our cultural cooperation with all countries.

   Youth of India! This is the clarion call to You! Come forward & put in your best efforts to help in this great cause of strengthening friendship with all countries!

   Long Live ISCUF!

   Long Live World Peace!

   Long Live Friendship!

        Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;

Where knowledge is free;

Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls

Where words come out from the depth of truth;

Where tireless striving stretches its aims towards perfection;

Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;

Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action—

Into that heaven of freedon, my Father, let my country awake.
